The Sting (1973)
Was there ever a better pair than Paul Newman and Robert Redford? I think not. This second pairing of the two earned a Best Picture Oscar. I have always loved this film for its incredible usage of the wonderful Scott Joplin music, which I learned to play on the piano because I thought this movies is so awesome and cool. This film exudes coolness and fun and Paul Newman and Robert Redford aren’t the only two that exemplified this in the film. The whole band of cons that they assemble for the ultimate sting on the big boss man played with incredible presence by Robert Shaw. The plot is slick leading up to the fun and somewhat shocking twists and the acting refined. Most importantly it has a heavy presence of villain of Robert Shaw’s caliber who you can easily root against while regarding him with a lot of respect for being so cruel and dangerous. All around the best con film out there.
